Week 6
for the week of december 28-january 3
Hello! Thank you for tuning into another week of swan song seven. I hope everyone’s staying warm and having a wonderful winter. These are some of my top picks for putting on when you want to just hang out and be cozy indoors. (Can you tell I’m typing this up on my phone in my childhood home?) Stay tuned for next week’s collection for the new year !! I’m getting excited about it.
The playlists for the week can be found here:
Happy listening!
sunday
Okay time to CANCEL me as a music enjoyer because I have listened this song for years (?) and I never knew it was a cover of Leonard Cohen’s song Suzanne. But isn’t it a beautiful thing to enjoy a cover without knowing it is one? And then finding the cover better even after listening to the original? Girls do just do it better…
A little fun fact, this song came out around this time (January 1), 1969! Go enjoy her beautiful vocals and guitar somewhere cold if you can- this song sounds like a winter morning.
monday
This is the most random way to find music, but a van life YouTuber I like had this song playing in the background of one of her videos. I’m not sure how to categorize this song (don’t get me started on how Apple Music chooses to determine genres…), because I was going to call this classical, or something adjacent, but Apple Music is calling it rock. Give it a listen and let me know…
tuesday
This song’s such a calming background song for winter! I’m outing myself again as someone who claims to know something about music here… Mazzy Star is one of those bands (yes, band, not one person) where I always nod my head and pretend I know about them. I did my research and item number one… Mazzy Star is indeed not one person but a band from Santa Monica, California. Item number two- the voice on this song, Hope Sandoval, was not Mazzy Star’s first vocalist?
wednesday
This song is so fun, and it reminds me of a Phoebe Bridgers song, but I can’t put my finger on which one. Readers, please help!! Meels is a relatively new artist I’ve come across in the past few years, as I’m now realizing this album came out in 2024.
thursday
This Gregory and the Hawk song is so whimsical, I absolutely adore it.
friday
My Ego Dies at the End - Jensen McRae (2021)
Another really good song that sounds like how being indoors cooking after a cold day outside feels like.
saturday
A cool ambient tune to finish this winter mix.

also sorry i’ve been MIA the holidays are always so chaotic ahh missed U xx
i’m a simple woman, i see Mazzy Star in the lineup and i start kicking my feet ^.^
